Yikes. No progress in 10 years for construction’s death rate.
“Workers continue to die at the same rate — 10 out of every 100,000 workers didn’t come home between 2011 and 2020 — highlighting weak enforcement, meager inspections and fines, and the opioid epidemic.”

Despite OSHA’s efforts, construction’s death rate hasn’t budged in 10 years
Ten in every 100,000 workers died on the job in 2020, a stubbornly stagnant rate that has held since 2011.

Seems like the penalties are just not steep enough for contractors to really care about avoiding them. 9k for average death is crazy.

Agreed. It just seems like some contractors aren’t going to care unless penalties hit them really hard in the wallet. It’s crazy to think that even having an organization like OSHA, there’s actually been no improvement on death rate in a decade.

At least injuries are down, but at the end of the day, the deaths number is what REALLY needs to come down. https://www.enr.com/articles/55290-construction-nonfatal-injuries-and-illnesses-are-down-injury-rate-flat
